For more than 119 years, The Plaza Hotel has been an enduring part of New York City’s architectural and cultural heritage. Since opening its doors in 1907, the hotel has maintained a distinctive place in the city’s history, recognised for its architectural character, exceptional craftsmanship, and enduring presence.
Understanding the unique place in New York City’s architectural heritage and cultural history it holds, The Plaza Hotel is advancing plans for repair and restoration works to its landmark-protected façade. The undertaking reflects the complexity of maintaining a property of such architectural and historical significance, with careful consideration given to preservation requirements and the building’s long-term care, as well as the safety of our guests, employees, and the wider community.
The scope and complexity of the façade works require detailed planning and coordination with relevant stakeholders, alongside adherence to applicable historic preservation requirements. Further considerations relating to the planning and execution of the works remain under review as the process advances.
Due to the complexity of this undertaking and significant intrusion to operations, The Plaza Hotel will be closing for at least four years commencing January 2027 while the work is underway.
